Tulip Spotting away from the big crowds? Go to Flevoland, the newest province of The Netherlands. Flevoland is “born out of water” in from the fifties to the seventies, and mostly used for agriculture and “new” nature reserves. The soil is ideal for growing vegetables, but for flower bulbs as well.
More recent – with the flower bulbs (mainly Tulips and Dahlia’s) growing exports, flower bulb famers are more and more growing tulip bulbs in Flevoland. The fields are a bit less impressive perhaps than in Lisse, but the pro’s are that there’s less crowd. You can just drive by car or by bicycle on the long roads through the island. Make stops close to the fields, take some nice pictures. Make a nice rest at one of the many dikes at the surrounding waters and relax.
Today we celebrate Kingsday in The Netherlands, and relaxing in Flevoland is just what we did.
Tip: there is a special website called Tulpenroute Flevoland 2021 about tulips in Flevoland where can get more information about the places which are interesting to visit.
